New tomato farm in Al Ain to Produce 150,000 kgs of Tomatoes, Strengthening the UAE’s Local Food Production
The new 10,000-square-metre tomato farm in Al Ain aims to produce 150,000 kilograms annually, enhancing the UAE’s food security efforts amid global supply chain challenges
The launch of a new high-tech tomato farm by UNS Vertical Farms in Al Ain marks a significant advancement in the UAE’s efforts to bolster local food production amid global supply chain vulnerabilities.
The initiative aligns with the nation’s commitment to enhancing food security and self-sufficiency, positioning the UAE as a leader in sustainable agriculture.

The 10,000-square-metre facility is designed to produce around 150,000 kilograms of fresh tomatoes annually, thereby reinforcing a stable supply of locally grown produce. This development is part of a broader strategy to foster resilient agricultural solutions that ensure year-round availability, catering to the evolving demands of both households and the HORECA sector.
Employing advanced controlled-environment agriculture (CEA) technologies, UNS Vertical Farms utilises hydroponics integrated with Internet of Things (IoT) devices and artificial intelligence to achieve a precision-controlled farming environment.

Continuous monitoring of essential variables, such as temperature and humidity, is facilitated by advanced sensors, which optimise climate control and irrigation processes. This comprehensive system not only enhances efficiency and yields but also minimises waste, ensuring high-quality produce for consumers.
The farm cultivates selected premium tomato varieties, including non-GMO cherry and bunch tomatoes, that are free of pesticides. This focus sets it apart from imported alternatives, which are often bred for transport rather than taste. Its direct-to-consumer model enables customers to order fresh produce through its online platform, ensuring rapid delivery within 24 to 48 hours of harvest to maintain freshness.

Beyond merely producing tomatoes, UNS Vertical Farms illustrates how technological innovation is reshaping agriculture in the UAE. Operating independently of seasonal limitations and extreme weather challenges, the farm significantly reduces water usage, offering a sustainable model in the UAE’s arid climate.
The initiative underscores the critical role of the private sector in advancing national strategies, such as the UAE National Food Security Strategy 2051 and the Net Zero 2050 goals, while contributing to a resilient and self-sufficient food ecosystem.
